Road marking projects for pedestrian safety were implemented by the Municipality of Heraklion


The Municipality of Heraklion, having as its main concern the strengthening of road safety and the protection of drivers and pedestrians within the urban space, proceeded to an extensive maintenance of the city lines.

Specifically, with the 1074/2018 decision of the Economic Committee, a service contract was awarded for the maintenance of the horizontal marking (delineation) of roads within the administrative boundaries of our Municipality.

As part of the works that carried out, the pedestrian crossings were restored on an area of 4,500 m2, axis and boundary line markings despite the curb in an area of 12,000m2 and 30 “Stop” stamp points.

The project, with a total cost of 59,854.80 (including VAT) was completed on time, in view of the summer season, and was received by the Municipal Council of Heraklion at its meeting on Monday 23.07.2018.

According to the Deputy Mayor of Technical Works Mr. Giannis Anastasakis, the specific intervention, which was studied and implemented under the responsibility of the Traffic and Transportation Department of the Directorate of Technical Works and Studies of the Municipality of Heraklion, was the first for 2018, significant maintenance intervention) roads within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Heraklion.

On the occasion, the municipal authority calls on the citizens to apply the Road Traffic Code, as indicated by the horizontal marking, in order to reduce as much as possible the traffic accidents – especially with pedestrian victims – within our city.
