Golden Award to Municipality of Heraklion for the Application for mobile devices Citizen of Heraklion in the Best City Awards 2017.

In the ICT and Governance Unit, in the IoT applications category, the Municipality of Heraklion took the golden award in the Application for mobile devices, Citizen of Heraklion. The award ceremony was attended by Mayors from all over the country, Local Government Officials, Regions Executives, Senior Business Executives. The awards for the Municipality of Heraklion were received by the Deputy Mayor of e-Government Petros Eniotakis, who in his greeting emphasized that “These awards are the recognition of the effort which is made in the Municipality of Heraklion for better management of new technologies, protection of the environment, economic development and protection of citizens and finally for the better quality of life we want to have in the cities we live in “.

The application that was created by the Municipality of Heraklion will give all the information that the citizens need for the city but they will also be able to submit requests, problems and anything else they deem necessary.

The application, which works on iOS and Android, is available for free and includes the following sections:

1. Problem Declaration – for each problem is submitted the following informations:

• Category
• Description
• Photography
• Location

The statement of the problems are reported on spot, or if there is no network connection, stored and submitted to the next stage. View status for problems submitted by the user.

3. The Events in Heraklion
4. Connection with the Social Networks of the Municipality of Heraklion
5. Useful Telephones of the City and the Municipality
6. Map with important points of interest of the Municipality
7. Direct Contact with the Municipality of Heraklion via phone, sms & email

Finally, the application allows citizens to be informed using the Push Notifications service. The application has been installed on more than 500 mobile devices and more than 120 requests have been submitted, most common problem requests are for the streets, for the municipal lighting and in cleanliness.
